The author is a political scientist/micro-economist/geographer concerned about the place of the African peasant in the globalizing world. He spends most of his time travelling across sub-Saharan Africa researching the interplay between private capital, the state, and the rural economy. This blogs offers critical reflections of the contemporary threats to peasant livelihoods by exploring the role of emerging economies, commercial agriculture investments, and agricultural modernization schemes.
